Picabond connector

Match the installed telephone cable splicing system

A Picabond-style connector is a modular crimp splice connector for copper telephone cable systems. Unlike button-style gel-filled IDC connectors, it is selected by color, wire range, packaging format, and a matching crimping tool or machine setup.

Reel / strip packaging for established field installation workflows

Picabond-style connectors can be discussed in loose pack or reel / strip packaging depending on connector type, order quantity, and installation workflow. Reel / strip packaging is useful when the buyer has an established field or machine setup, while loose pack is practical for maintenance inventory and distributor supply.

Construction

Bonded PET film and tin-plated metal channel

Picabond-style connectors use a metal channel with bonded polyester insulation. The colored outside layer is PET insulation film, heat-bonded to the metal channel without adhesive. The inner metal channel is tin-plated.

Comparison

Picabond vs jelly crimp connectors

Picabond-style connectors and jelly crimp connectors both sit inside copper telecom cable splicing, but they fit different maintenance systems. Picabond-style connectors are modular crimp splice connectors selected by color, wire range, packaging format, and tool setup. Jelly crimp connectors are compact gel-filled IDC splice connectors such as UY, UY2, UR, UR2, and UB2A.

Application fit

Legacy copper telephone cable maintenance

Picabond-style connectors belong in legacy copper telephone cable splicing and maintenance applications where the buyer already needs this modular crimp splice format. They should not be promoted as a new-market connector for alarm, CCTV, access control, or general low-voltage wiring.

  • Copper telephone cable splicing.
  • Multi-pair telephone cable repair and maintenance.
  • Telecom distribution and maintenance systems.
  • Pedestals, cabinets, manholes, aerial / pole work, and field splice environments where the existing system uses this format.
  • Distributor inventory for legacy Picabond-style connector demand.
  • Brown in-line connector requirements for older straight splice systems.

FAQ

Buyer questions

What is a Picabond-style connector?

A Picabond-style connector is a modular crimp splice connector used in copper telephone cable splicing systems. It is selected by connector color, wire range, connector type, packaging format, and matching tool setup.

What Picabond-style connector types does Mintel supply?

Mintel supplies Green, Red, Purple, Yellow, and Brown options. Green and Red are standard connector options, Purple and Yellow are weather-resistant options, and Brown is a separate in-line standard connector for straight 2-wire splice requirements.

What wire range do Picabond-style connectors support?

Green and Purple support 22/26 AWG wire. Red and Yellow support 19/24 AWG wire. Brown supports 24-19 AWG / 0.51-0.90 mm wire for straight in-line splice requirements with a maximum of 2 wires.

Is Brown Picabond the same as Red Picabond?

No. Brown and Red should not be treated as substitutes. Brown is an in-line 2-wire connector for straight splice requirements. Red is a standard Picabond-style connector for 19/24 AWG multi-wire splice requirements.

Can Brown be used for tap or bridge connections?

No. Brown should be treated as a straight in-line splice connector only. It should not be described or selected for tap or bridge connections.

Which tool direction should I confirm?

For Green, Red, Purple, and Yellow Picabond-style connectors, buyers usually review the green handle crimping tool direction. For Brown in-line Picabond-style connectors, buyers should review the black handle crimping tool direction or confirm the existing cable jointing machine setup.

Can Mintel supply connectors and tools together?

Mintel can discuss Picabond-style connector supply together with green handle and black handle crimping tool direction. Tool availability should be confirmed by model, quantity, and project requirement.

Can Picabond-style connectors be supplied loose or on reel?

Yes. Loose pack or reel / strip packaging can be discussed by model and order requirement. Packaging should be confirmed together with connector color, quantity, tool setup, and installation workflow.

Is this page for alarm, CCTV, or access control wiring?

No. Picabond-style connectors should be positioned for legacy copper telephone cable splicing and maintenance systems. For compact gel-filled IDC splices used in telephone and signal wiring when specs match, use the Jelly Crimp Connectors page.

Do you sell small quantities?

Qualified trial orders can be reviewed for distributors, resellers, and project buyers, but Mintel does not sell one-piece personal retail orders. Buyers should consider international freight cost for small trial orders.

Can RoHS and REACH documents be provided?

RoHS and REACH documentation can be arranged for qualified orders. Buyers should confirm the required document type, product model, order quantity, and destination market during quotation.
